Am I a "Tiger Mom"?
So you've heard about the very strict moms on T.V. called "tiger moms" that rule with an iron fist so to speak and are very hard on their kids and it got me wondering... am I like that?!?
Well, first of all, my child is not the age of taking part in lots of activities like gymnastics, violin, or piano, so in that realm of things I don't believe I'm "tiger-ish". But I guess I am strict about other things... like certain foods, amount of T.V. time and a few other things.
Here are some examples:
I don't allow Harper to eat a lot of sweets or junk food. She hasn't ever had much candy and never any sodas. I still try to push just water to drink in the mornings and juice in the afternoons. For desserts its usually just fruit. One reason I push lots of fruit is that she does get "locked up" easily.
Another thing is the amount of T.V. time that I let her watch. Ive always wanted my children to have a creative mind and imagination and I feel that watching too much T.V. takes away from that. I sometimes set a timer and allow her to watch 30-45 minutes of a movie while I get a few things done... usually taking a shower is my time. I usually don't ever turn the T.V. on and walk away and let it stay on for long periods of time. You just never know whats on these days and even commercials can be too graphic! I also am VERY strict on what she can watch. She is only 2 and I feel that movies with scary villains or monsters has an impact on their developing little minds...so, its just Bambi, Winnie the Pooh and Charlotte's Web for her right now.
I know most of you will probably think that I am somewhat "tiger mom" material and you can certainly judge me all you want. These are things that I am convicted about in raising my children. I'm sure it will all change as they grow older but for now its whats working for us. So, I guess all I can say is, "grrrrr!"...ha!

I think you are a lovely mother. Harper is very sweet and happy, yet well-behaved, every time I have seen her.
Lydia,
We have run into some judgemental people already in our almost 7 months of parenting. I am really particular about what I let Wade eat and do not plan to allow him to have sweets and definitely not sodas. I think with the childhood obesity epidemic I can at least do my part to try and prevent his affinity for sweets - I sure wish I didn't have one! :) I am also not fond of the TV. We have actually considered getting rid of it all together again. We didn't have it for about 3 years and it was kind of nice.
