So, yes, another one bites the dust. Im lamenting over my one and only African violet. Ive had it sitting in my kitchen windowsill for at least 3-4 years. It was given to me by a dear friend to cheer me up..and now, well, due to some over-zealous care I have to admit that I killed it. Just for the record African violets arent that easy of a house plant to take care of. They are delicate and difficult little things that only my grandmother could seem to get to thrive and bloom... mine never did.
Heres the story of its demise... Id had it in the same pot it was given to me in... first strike against it... because you should always re-pot a plant as it grows so the roots can expand. Also, another thing is that I would just water it when the soil was so dry that it would clump together and pull away from the pot... yes, second strike against it. Well, against all odds it had lived through it all...... until this past week. I had found some houseplant liquid "food" hidden away in a cabinet and thought my poor violet would love something refreshing. Like I said, I got over zealous about feeding it and now all its leaves are starting to shrivel and the dirt looks moldy on top. All I can say is I killed it with kindness....sniff, sniff.
