Small, But Packs a Punch

Ok, so my post is going to be extremely short... but I wanted to share this with whoever reads them...

In my devotional yesterday the key scripture was in Matthew 13 about the sower sowing seed and the different places it fell on.  It focused on the one type of place mostly- shallow ground.  It compared this type of ground to people- those who have no real purpose in life and are easily swayed by different things that come their way.  They may "sprout" up with good intentions but they have no depth or genuine purpose and no earnest desire to know God.  Therefore we should be careful to maintain the soil of our hearts.
This next story is what got me ... just one sentence that packed a punch!
When a Roman soldier was told by his guide that if he insisted on on taking a certain journey, it would be fatal, he answered, "It is necessary for me to go-- it is not necessary for me to live."
THAT was true depth of conviction, and only when we are likewise convicted will our lives amount to something.
I like this short and simple prayer:  Lord, lead us into the depths of Your life and save us from a shallow existence!
